Replacement Handles For Windows
Window handles are among the most frequently used components of your double-glazed windows. They can wear down over time and get rusty or worn out.
To replace a UPVC window handle, you will need to know the length of the spindle of the handle you are replacing and also its fixings. This can be done by examining the base of the old handle.

Over time uPVC handles and window locks can be damaged by wear and tear, or intentional or accidental damage. It could be that the handle or lock becomes difficult to close or open, or that they are not even locked. If this happens it may be tempting to replace the entire window unit, but this isn't always necessary. In most instances the case, a new handle or lock is all that's needed.
The most commonly used kind of uPVC window handle is the espagnolette style. This handle has an outer spindle that extends from the handle. It is inserted into a gearbox, which controls the multipoint locking system inside the window. It is crucial to match the appropriate handle and lock to your windows in order to ensure that they work correctly. That's why we have a wide selection of replacement handles for all types of uPVC windows.
It's an ideal idea to replace the uPVC handle using screw covers to shield the screws from rust and ensure they remain secure. You can also employ a washer, spacer or other sealant to ensure a tighter fit. A screw cap will prevent water and debris getting into the handle, which can cause damage.
After the handle has been removed from the window, it's recommended to wash the spindle of the new handle, and also the threaded part of the bolt. This will ensure that the handle is fitted and functions properly. It will also keep dirt out of the multipoint lock.
Next it's time to install the new uPVC handle. You should carefully read the instructions that come with your new handle. You can also take a look at the handle you had previously to get a better understanding of how to do it. Usually, the process is simple. However, if you encounter any problems along the way that aren't addressed in this guide you should contact our team for additional assistance.
It's also important to note that if you are replacing a uPVC handle cockspur (also known as an Espag handle) you will need to determine the height of the steps on the window to determine the appropriate size of handle. The step height is the distance between the bottom of the window and the place where the handle of the cockspur is.
Hinges
If your windows are beginning to close and open with a visible gap this could be due to the hinges not aligned with the frame. This is usually a simple fix that can be solved with a new set of replacement window hinges. We offer a range of options and even customize the size of the window hinges to fit your needs.
We can supply different types of hinges suitable for upvc and timber windows. These are available in a variety of colours to fit with your existing window frames and come with all fixings required for fitting. If you have a double glazed window with an older style of hinge, we are able to offer a selection of repair screws which allow you to cut the thread from the previous form back into the frame.
We have a variety of different hinge types that range from conventional casement hinges for windows that can be used with a standard or tilt and turn handle up to fire escape egress hinges that are suitable for use on larger sized side-hung windows. These hinges are designed to fully open in an urgent situation and include an easy-clean position. We also have hinges that are restricted in egress and are designed to restrict the opening angle of the window to 100mm or less perfect for families with children.
Squeaky hinges may indicate that the hinges must be replaced. It's usually due to metal friction against metal. A small amount of lubricant may help but should the noise continue to be heard, it is likely that the hinges require replacement.
This is due to plumb windows being capable of avoiding binding options. The operating sash is aligned with the frame so that the window will close and open in a proper manner. A window that isn't plumb could begin to close and open with difficulty or be distorted over time, which can affect the seal and the appearance of the window.
You can purchase replacement hinges for windows made of upvc in imperial or metric measurements. The size in metric is a bit more precise, but it isn't noticeable once they are fitted. The first corner holes on the track are standard however, the rest of the holes may vary based on the hardware used originally. We advise that you measure the holes in your frame prior to purchasing any hinges made of upvc in order to ensure they are the correct dimensions.

Over time, wear and tear can cause damage to your window handle and lock mechanism, or even the crank mechanism. This could make it difficult to open and close your windows. It could also affect their security. If your window is difficult to open or close or you hear a click when you turn the handle it could be a sign you should replace the mechanism. If you can't secure your window, or the multipoint locks are broken, then it might be worth replacing the crank mechanism too.
It's easy to replace a window crank with minimal effort. However, it is essential that you purchase the correct size replacement. Make sure the replacement has the same step height as the old one and can be measured by measuring the distance between the crank arm guide bushing and the notch that runs along the track across the bottom of the window frame. You can also determine the spindle length on the handle you currently have to determine the size of the replacement.

The type of handle that is fitted to your window will determine the kind of crank mechanism you need for your casement and windows with awnings. Espag handles have a mental spindle in the back that is connected to the frame of the window and is the motor that drives the mechanism. Cockspur handles are fitted with pegs that are fixed in the frame by three or four screws which are set in the sash as well as the frame.
It's easy to replace the window operator once you've identified the correct replacement. First, take off any trim mounting screws on the casement cover of your window and then carefully lift it off to reveal the insides of the window operator (Photo 1). Remove any trim screws that are rusted and compare the new operating lever with the previous to ensure they match. Then, screw the new lever to the window frame, replace any screws that were damaged or bent, then put the casement cover back over the mechanism.
